An Experience We Won’t Forget: Creating New Realities at SXSW 2017
During this year’s SXSW Interactive, the #DellExperience in Austin, Texas hosted thousands of rapt festival goers and featured innovative new technologies, global security experts, social media entrepreneurs, and up-and-coming bands.
The biggest highlight of the week was checking out the new Dell Canvas — a powerful work surface built for creativity. Visitors were wowed by its intuitive and stylish design at multiple interactive stations.
Guests were also able to feast their ears on new Precision audio technology in the immersive Audiophile booth. Award-winning producer and engineer Jack Joseph Puig was on site to guide lucky attendees on an acoustic journey.
On Monday morning, the #DellExperience hosted Dr. Zulfikar Ramzan of RSA, Greg Fitzgerald of Javelin Networks, and our own David Konetski to discuss pressing security issues. The panel, titled “Your credit card knows where you are. Should your workplace be as smart?” touched on major issues for businesses in the 21st century — security breaches, how to deal with hackers, and what measures you can take to secure your data in a truly global age.
To end the week with a bang, the #DellExperience hosted an exciting and heavily attended event on Tuesday night that explored the future of virtual reality. Panelists included Michael Gold, of Holojam Inc. and Dr. Skip Rizzo, a psychologist at the University of Southern California that uses VR to treat people with anxiety and PTSD.
According to Rizzo, “The healthcare system is in turmoil right now. We’ve got to find ways to cut costs and deliver better services. Automation and VR simulation will help that.”
During the event, Jessica Ward, Co-founder of VRLA, discussed cooperative interaction in virtual spaces — a development that will drastically change how we work and create in the near future. “The dream of VR,” she told the buzzing crowd, “is dreaming together.”
